Shivaratri, which literally translates in English as “Night of Shiva” is one of the coolest festivals Nepal has to offer. It is believed that this is one of the best days to boost your inner/spiritual energy because this day marks the convergence of Shiva and Shakti.
Thousands of devotees of Shiva, not just from Nepal but also from India and other neighboring countries, visit Pashupatinath Temple on this day to worship Lord Shiva and to celebrate this festival with large crowds. Since thousands of people visit Pashupatinath during this festival, special provisions are made by the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) to manage the crowd and to make things easier and smoother for the visitors.
This festival usually falls on the month of February. During this time, the winter is nearing its end, so it’s not as cold in Kathmandu as it is during December and January.
