Kali Gandaki is one of the holiest rivers and is mentioned in Hindu Mythology as well. Kali Gandaki River is also known as Krishna Gandaki in Nepal. It is one of the major water sources and hydro-power sources of Nepal. It is the major stream of the deepest river of Nepal – Sapta Gandaki, which is better known as Narayani River. The gorge made by Kali Gandaki is known as Kali Gandaki Gorge, which is the deepest gorge of the world. The main source of Kali Gandaki River lies at the basin of Mount Dhaulagiri (Mustang District) near the Tibet border. Shaligram (a holy stone – Hindus consider it as God) of Kali Gandaki is very famous not only in Nepal but also in India. Kali Gandaki has a large potential of Hydro Power. The biggest hydropower project of Nepal is in Kali Gandaki. Jomsom, Beni, Baglung, Ridi, Devghat, Narayanghat, Harinagar, Valmikinagar are the major cities which are located in the bank of Kaligandaki River.
